the margin, I have the honour to inform you that I have reconsidered the question of the payment of periodical remittances to certain

overnor's No. 227 of 1st June 1916. Boretary of State's No. 186 of 27th.

12617/ prisoners of war who were transferred from Hongkong to Australia,

and it appears to me that a distinction should be drawm between the case of firms which are entirely or mainly local and firms which had branches or their head offices elsewhere. I think that in the case of prisoners of war belonging to firms of the former class the remittances should be continued, but that in the case of firms of the latter class the payments should be discontinued. The prisoners in question would then have to look to the branches of

their firms which are still in existence elsewhere.

I would olassify the firms as follows. The

names of the individuals who are at present receiving remittances

appear in the second coluun.
